i think any ruling that goes against d rule f ability is wrong...reservation of any kind should be done away with...although that seems a bleak-2-none possibility right now... the SC ruling is allowing reservation on the basis of a person's birth, something the said person has no control over...Isn't equality a constitutional right anymore???and what about the equality in opportunity for general category students...
this ruling is like trying to mend a broken fence by breaking the house within so no one notices the broken fence anymore...

Hi Ashish, i wont comment on ur article...i wud rather ask u to read a lecture Arundhati Roy gave at some place. At first it may seem out of context to wot u 've written over here....but hey..read it
Here's the link

@ Prof. Goel (Dad)

I will be more than glad if what you suggest in enforced by the IIMs. But I am afraid that the IIMs can not take any such step, they will have to abide by the directions of the MHRD, headed by Arjun Singh. Especially after what happened with Dr. Venugopal of AIIMS, I am sure no director of any IIM would dare to go against the guidelines laid down by the MHRD, the body they are directly under.

Sadly, I see a grim picture ahead.

the Supreme Court’s verdict will justify if all the IIM's will understand & implement the decision of the court correctly,without any political pressures .It is just the question of understanding the law language.Soon all the politician will be fired by the court,just wait & see.

@Raju

I am not sure what you are trying to put across because as per the statistics, OBCs constitute 52% of India's population, so clearly they are the majority and still have a 27% reservation, certainly not more than 50% as argued by you.

Reservation in India is on the basis of caste only, not religion (because India is a "secular" country). Moreover, I believe that in all religions, the percentage of the general category/SCs/STs/OBCs roughly remains the same, so overall I don't see any discrimination against or favourism for any one particular religion.

Hope that clarifies your worry.
